Candidate Election Procedure for Position One of the
Local Government Health Insurance Board (LGHIB)
The Local Government Health Insurance Board (LGHIB) is comprised of nine board members, which includes two that are elected. The term for one of the elected seats, Position One, expires December 31, 2019. The below information explains the procedures for qualifying as a candidate for Position One.
Candidates for Position One of the LGHIB must meet these qualifications, as outlined in Alabama Code § 11-91A-4(c)(4):
- An active full-time employee of municipal or county government;
- Be a member of the Local Government Health Insurance Plan (LGHIP); and
- Have at least 10 years of creditable coverage in the LGHIP
Position One has a three-year term, commencing January 1, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2022. This elected individual will be involved in fundamental decisions regarding the LGHIP’s benefits and premiums. To be placed on the ballot, a prospective candidate must submit a completed Candidate Information Form, candidate statement and current photograph by 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 15, 2019 to email@example.com.

The candidate statement should not exceed 100 words and include a short bio with the candidate’s unique qualifications and reasons for serving on the LGHIB.
